The municipality of Zalaújlak is located amidst sylvan hills between the towns of Nagykanizsa and Zalakaros.
It is a favoured excursion site: its picturesque wine-hill and chestnut forests are favoured among hikers and bikers.
In the centre of Zalaújlak you can find the “Guardian Angels” church. The Baroque-style building was made around 1740. A 22 metre high tower, erected in the middle of the 20th century, was added to the church nave with wooden tiles on the roof. On entering the church you can see the work of Paulist monks, carved wooden statues of the angels, after whom the church was named.
The memorial house established 2014 to commemorate József Egry is in the vicinity of the church. The Avantgarde-artist, known as the painter of Balaton, was born here on 15th March 1883. The painter depicted the village of his birth on several of his works of art. Reproductions show his works in a restored granary. The exhibition can be visited after previous appointment. In front of the building you can see the portrait-statue of the artist, there are rests and a fairground nearby.
